Animal Care Clinic is devoted to providing comprehensive care for your pets, as well as the level of care and comfort that is unmatched. We strive to provide the best possible medical and surgical services in the Bemidji area. With our focus on quality healing, treatment, and therapy, we've been a leader in local veterinary care since 1997.

Dr. Eric Thorsgard
Dr. Eric Thorsgard is originally from Thief River Falls, MN. He received his undergraduate degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and his DVM from the University of Minnesota in 1987. After graduating from veterinary school, he worked as a mixed and dairy practitioner before opening up Animal Care Clinic in 1997 with his wife Gerri, focusing on preventative care, pet surgery, and orthopedics.
Dr. Thorsgard has invented and sold orthopedic surgical hardware to veterinarians in the US and Europe. Because of his orthopedic skills, clinics across northern Minnesota, eastern North Dakota, and southern Manitoba refer their surgical cases to Dr. Thorsgard and Animal Care Clinic.

Dr. Megan Hockenson grew up in Grand Rapids MN. She attended North Dakota State University in Fargo ND where she received a bachelor’s degree in Zoology. Dr. Hockenson went on to receive her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Ross University on the island of St. Kitts located in the West Indies and completed a clinical rotation at the University of Madison-Wisconsin. Dr. Hockenson’s professional interests include pain management, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine and geriatric medicine. Dr. Hockenson shares her home with 6 rescue pets: 2 dogs (Annie and Walleye) and 4 cats (Henry, Bruno, Al, and Leonard). When not attending to the animals at the clinic, Dr. Hockenson can be found hiking, and exploring the beautiful nature of northern Minnesota, on the lake, boating, jet skiing, or reading in the hammock.
Dr. John Niemi grew up in the Staples/Motley area. He attended the University of Minnesota receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. He has been married to his wife Angie for 18 years and has 5 children, Nicholas, Benjamin, Lucas, Lilly, and Katie. John’s hobbies include fishing, whether it is on the water or the ice and upland bird hunting with his dog Rusty. Rusty is a Red Lab/Vizsla cross. The Niemi family also enjoy their other dogs, Bindi, who is also Vizsla and a little 3 pound, 1 eyed, 3 legged, diva Yorkie named Itty Bit. Their other beloved pets include 2 cats, Sherman and Jehoshaphat. They are excited to make their new home in Bemidji and look forward to meeting you and your pets.
