Dr. Rachel Spencer
Veterinarian
Dr. Rachel grew up in Central Wisconsin. She received her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science degree from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities.
She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016.
Her first job brought her to the Bemidji area, where she was providing small animal veterinary care in both Bemidji and Roseau, Minnesota. Friends and family brought her back to the Twin Cities for a few years, but Dr. Rachel’s heart has remained in the north woods. She returned to the Bemidji area in 2020 and has been providing small animal veterinary care here ever since. Some of her professional interests include, diagnostic imaging, dermatology, internal medicine, and, most importantly, preventative medicine.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys biking, kayaking, reading and gardening.
Kennedy Resendiz-Biermaier, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Kennedy Resendiz-Biermaier recently graduated from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. She has a passion for enhancing the human-animal bond through exceptional care. From addressing common issues like itchy skin to handling emergency surgeries, Dr. Resendiz-Biermaier’s approach centers around strengthening the unique connection between pets and their owners.
Beyond her veterinary work, Dr. Resendiz-Biermaier is an avid outdoor enthusiast. She embraces activities like running, horseback riding, fishing, and kayaking. When indoors, she enjoys nurturing her garden, diving into books, immersing herself in movies, and engaging in friendly board game competitions.
Megan Hockenson, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Megan Hockenson is a dedicated veterinarian at Animal Care Clinic, spending the last six years in small animal medicine in Park Rapids, MN.
Dr. Hockenson’s educational journey included her undergraduate degree at North Dakota State University and graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Her passion for veterinary medicine encompasses a range of areas, including surgery, pain management, senior wellness care, and dentistry. Her commitment to fear-free handling and strengthening the human-animal bond ensures each pet’s visit is safe, enjoyable, and as stress-free as possible.
Beyond her professional role, Dr. Hockenson embraces a life of exploration. Traveling and seeking new adventures feed her curiosity. She also finds solace in spending quality time with her family and their array of pets, ranging from dogs and cats to free-range chickens. Cooking, baking, gardening, boating, hiking, and reading are all part of her variety of interests.

Receptionist
Carrie Erikson is one of our welcoming receptionists at Animal Care Clinic. With a year of industry experience, she is the friendly face you’ll encounter, ready to assist you with a smile. Carrie takes pride in fostering a strong connection between clients and the care their pets need. She ensures that clients feel supported and informed throughout their journey.
Beyond her role, Carrie’s heart belongs to her extensive family. With a husband, nine children, 28 grandchildren, four dogs, a cat, 12 chickens, two ducks, and a house chicken named Mabel, her life is a vibrant tapestry of love and companionship.
Angie N.
Angie attended school in Staples, MN. Although new to the veterinary field, she brings over two decades of experience with animals, thanks to her husband, who is a veterinarian. Angie takes great pride in caring for her patients, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand.
Outside of work, Angie cherishes every moment with her five children and eagerly anticipates the arrival of her granddaughter. Her free time is devoted entirely to her family.
Alex D.
Born and raised in south-central Minnesota, Alex performed gymnastics and volleyball in grade school. Later, she graduated from Minnesota State University-Mankato with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology in December 2013. Not finding her passion in zoology, she continued her education with Rochester Community and Technical College to earn an Associate of Applied Science in May 2017 and became a Certified Veterinary Technician two months later.
Her professional career includes working at Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS),
Minnesota DNR, VCA Cascade Animal Medical Center &Boarding ni Rochester, Bemidji Vet Hospital and Headwaters Veterinary Clinic.
Alex is recently married to her husband Dustin. They also have 4 miniature dachshunds (Mustang, Ryder, Hayley &Hunter) 1German shepherd (Ruger) and 1old cranky cat (Trina).
The duo likes to spend time outside, snowmobile, hunting, fishing, kayaking, etc.
Sheena P.
Sheena has devoted five years to veterinary medicine, taking pride in her calm demeanor and compassionate care for every pet she handles. Her expertise ensures pets lead happy, healthy lives, and she finds joy in watching them grow from babies to healthy adults.
Outside of work, Sheena cherishes time with her family, including her fiancé, two kids, two dogs, and a cat. Her hobbies reflect a love for the outdoors and relaxation, such as fishing, barbecuing, bonfires, biking, and camping. She also enjoys indoor activities like playing video games and watching TV. Her passion for nature extends to tracking adventures in the woods with her dog, gardening, and birdwatching.

Receptionist
Connie Berg is a friendly face you’ll encounter when you visit Animal Care Clinic. With an impressive 24+ years in the industry, her experience is a valuable asset to the team. Connie’s heartwarming approach stems from her deep affection for animals. She finds immense satisfaction in witnessing their happiness and good health, making their well-being her top priority.
Beyond work, Connie’s world revolves around spending quality time with her grandchildren. She’s also an avid reader and enjoys taking walks whenever she can.
John Niemi, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. John Niemi, a seasoned veterinarian at Animal Care Clinic, has an impressive 27-year career in the veterinary industry. He earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1996.
Known for his heartfelt concern for both patients and clients, Dr. Niemi’s approach to veterinary medicine reflects his genuine compassion. This ensures the well-being of animals and fosters strong relationships with their owners.
Beyond his professional role, Dr. Niemi is an ardent enthusiast of outdoor pursuits. He finds joy in fishing, with a particular fondness for ice fishing, and is an avid hunter. The tranquility of the woods is his haven, and he treasures moments spent with his beloved family. His wife Angie and five children – Nicholas, Benjamin, Lucas, Lilly, and Katie – complete his cherished circle.
Hailing from the Staples/Motley area, Dr. Niemi’s roots are deeply connected to the community. His own furry companions include three dogs: Rusty, a Red Lab/Vizsla cross; Bindi, another Vizsla; and a little 3-pound, 1-eyed, 3-legged, diva Yorkie named Itty Bit. Additionally, two cats, Sherman and Jehoshaphat, share his home.

McKinzy Helm, a dedicated veterinary assistant at the Animal Care Clinic, brings about three years of experience to her role. Her journey in the industry has showcased her commitment to excellence. Dwayne Knutson is one of our dedicated veterinary assistants at the Animal Care Clinic with eight months of experience. He’s on the path to further his education and will soon attend Vermilion Tech School in Ely, MN.
Known for his calming presence, Dwayne creates a soothing atmosphere that promotes trust and comfort among animals and clients alike. Beyond work, his interests span studying exotic animals, reading, and indulging in running.

She has a particular fondness for working on dentals, ensuring the overall well-being of her animal patients.
Outside the clinic, Kim’s interests are as diverse as her professional skills. From camping and reading to cosplay and medieval reenactment with SCA, she embraces a range of hobbies. Video games and cherished moments with her children further enrich her vibrant life.

Savanah Heath is one of our devoted veterinary technicians at the Animal Care Clinic, who has been making her mark in the industry for a year and a half. Savanah’s educational journey led her to BSU, where she honed her skills and expertise in veterinary medicine. Her pride lies in utilizing her knowledge to benefit not only the animals but their owners as well, recognizing that pets are an integral part of the family.
When not at work, Savanah’s love for the outdoors shines. She spends quality time with her beloved dogs, Buster and Lady, enjoying hikes and exploring beaver lodges and dams in preparation for trapping season.

With her journey beginning in August 2022, Savanna Juelson is a dedicated veterinary assistant at the Animal Care Clinic. Savanna’s educational foundation was laid at Blackduck High School. Her dedication shines through her strong work ethic and her commitment to assisting animals in need.
Beyond her professional role, Savanna finds joy in the rodeo. Her free time is filled with the thrill of rodeo events, reflecting her love for adventure and competition.
